Weekly TD-SCDMA Update: January 21-27

- Chinese-language Sina Tech reported that initial TD-SCDMA network deployment has been completed in at least nine Chinese cities, including Qingdao and Baoding, under the charge of China Netcom and China Telecom, respectively. Seven out of the eight cities China Mobile is responsible for - including Qinhuangdao, Tianjin, Xiamen, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shanghai - have also finished base station installation and basic network construction. These cities have entered the fourth-phase project of TD-SCDMA network construction, including reinforcement and enhancement.

- China Mobile is expected to issue approval license by Chinese New Year, according to Chinese-language Financial Times citing industry sources. At the end of December 2007, China Mobile announced the first six winners of the company's TD-SCDMA terminal tender: these companies include Lenovo, ZTE, Samsung, LG, Hisense, and New Postcom. China Mobile plans to procure via the tender 30,000 TD-SCDMA phones and 10,000 TD-SCDMA data cards.
